In truth, we are not consultants by nature. The roots of our leaders are either in managing innovation, brands and people across the globe at the most senior level or in seriously distinguished academe. Instinctively therefore, we’d much rather ‘do’ than advise, we find it hard to ignore a challenge and get emotionally committed to solving a problem much too easily. And lazy thinking is rewarded with exceedingly low grades.
Prof. Dan McFadden’s Nobel Prize winning work on Customer Choice Modelling (CCM) was a strong entrepreneurial reason for founding MindFolio. As corporate managers we were forever faced with anodyne research output, so experiencing the precision of CCM was both a revelation and inspiration. Remember Victor Kiam who liked the shaver so much he bought the company? Well, take away the multimillion dollars, and that’s more or less what turned us into a ‘portfolio of minds’ consultancy, merging the creative and rule-breaking with the analytical and probing.
On reflection though, we have come to believe that combining the managerial mindset with the versatility and open-mindedness of consulting is as good a starting point for developing winning solutions as any.
